08 / IMPROVEMENTS / MAINTENANCE
Improve and maintain your existing web app
Your application is already in use and needs changes. Work starts with its current workflows, data and constraints so the impact of each change can be assessed.
01 / When this is a good fit
Does this sound
like your task?
- You need a new feature in an existing web application.
- Users encounter a problem whose cause has not been established.
- You need dependency updates, codebase onboarding or a development plan.
02 / FROM TASK TO RESULT
How the work happens
- 01
Recover the context
Review the user journey, code, logs and configuration. Distinguish defects from expected business behaviour.
- 02
Establish the cause and scope
Test the hypothesis with a reproducible example. For a new feature, describe the intended behaviour and affected parts.
- 03
Make the change
Implement the agreed change. Add checks where they protect important workflows and prevent the problem from returning.
- 04
Verify the release
Check the result in an appropriate environment. Agree on deployment and recovery for changes with significant risk.
03 / ESTIMATE & SCOPE
What shapes
the scope.
- Whether the issue can be reproduced and the project can be run.
- Dependencies between the affected code and other workflows.
- The availability of a test environment, documentation and release procedures.
We agree on access, the test environment and permitted actions. Round-the-clock incident response and guaranteed response times are not automatically included in a development task; those require a separate agreement.
What to share for the first conversation
Share the application link, expected behaviour and steps to reproduce the issue. Mention whether a repository and test environment are available.
Q / A
Working
together.
Can you work with another developer’s code?
Yes. First I need to understand how to run it, its architecture and important workflows. That makes subsequent estimates more meaningful.
Does the application need a rewrite?
That depends on specific constraints. Some problems need a local change; others need a larger redesign. The decision should have clear reasons.
Can we start with one bug?
Yes. Useful starting material includes reproduction steps, the expected outcome and examples of the failure without secrets or personal information.
Is ongoing support possible?
We can discuss recurring work, priorities and response times. Scope and availability are agreed separately.
